Mecosta County Kids started as a personal problem. I could never remember what was out there — events would come and go, places I meant to try would get buried in a Facebook scroll, and by Saturday I was back to square one trying to figure out what to do. So I made a list. Then I figured other parents around here were doing the same exact search, and I opened it up.

The goal is simple: one place where Mecosta County parents can find what is going on, what is available, and what is worth showing up for. A community calendar of regular activities. Classes for kids. Extended outings. Things you can do on a Tuesday or plan a month out.

This is also a community. If you see something, have something to share, or want to get involved — jump in. The more people contributing, the better this gets for everyone.

Jen and Mason

People that know me usually call me Jen. I live right in town in Big Rapids, I am a single mom and I have spent the last decade working in IT and am now trying to build something of my own on the side. I have ADHD, which means I have a lot of interests and I want to explore them all! Usually all at once so hold on tight.

I have 3 children, 2 are grown. My oldest son helps me with my business, around the house and yard, and homeschooling Mason. My daughter Kayla attends events and volunteers with me when she can. And then there is Mason — my famous, or maybe infamous, 8 year old. Soccer player and skateboarder extraordinaire who aspires to be the star of his own YouTube someday. You can catch us at festivals and local parks throughout the summer.

I hope to make this a place you come for local events and family activities — a hub to find things to do and bring the community together. I also want to grow it into an event coordination business, working with local venues to make that happen. If there is something you want to see here in Mecosta County, tell me — I want to hear it. So even if nothing is posted yet, reach out and get me to get my butt in gear.

I am still working 45 hours a week while building Untrained Momentum, and I also write a semi-weekly newsletter called Untrained Matriarch for stay at home moms and side hustle ideas — but what is one more project? If I get enough of the ones I want to be doing, maybe I can quit that job!
